Isabelle joined Animas Dental Associates in the summer of 2020 and is the driving force in our practice growth! If you have a question, she has an answer.  Isabelle is extremely personable and will help you with anything, from scheduling appointments to contacting your insurance carriers. Isabelle’s positive and inviting personality makes her a great asset to the Animas Dental team!

Originally from eastern Oklahoma, Isabelle moved to Durango in August, 2016 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree from Fort Lewis College. Isabelle recently graduated from Fort Lewis College in December, 2019 with a major in Public Health and is currently working towards obtaining her Master’s at Oklahoma State University-Online in Healthcare Administration.

During her free time, Isabelle enjoys traveling with her husband Forrest. Some of her favorite places have been Italy and Thailand, and she hopes to head to Africa next. When she’s not traveling, Isabelle enjoys gardening or listening to true crime podcasts. You can also find her and Forrest camping or relaxing by the Animas River.

Amy Peterson

Dental Assistant

Amy is a Durango native with a big heart and genuine smile!  After graduating high school, Amy studied at Pueblo Community College and has been dental assisting with Animas Dental Associates since 2014.  She enjoys being chairside and it shows in her heartfelt care.

Patients enjoy sharing their experiences as Amy fervently listens.  Eager to learn, Amy is continually expanding her dental repertoire.   Her meticulous nature and solid work ethic make her an asset to the practice.  As well, she makes every patient feel at home in the dental chair.

Amy spends her free time with her husband Adam and their boys, ages 3 and 5, as well as friends and family.   She loves the outdoors, traveling, camping, hiking, fishing, biking and snowboarding. Amy is always ready for adventure….or the next toddler meltdown, it’s a balancing act!

Jessie Roukema

Dental Assistant

Kathy Simpson

Dental Assistant

Kathy is a veteran dental assistant and absolutely one of the best! She began assisting nearly 40 years ago with Dr. Carl Johnson.  Even though he retired in 2011, she has remained with the practice ever since. She is truly our ‘right hand man’!

Kathy studied at Northeastern University in Boston, MA before relocating to Durango to raise her family.  There is nothing “dental” she doesn’t know. Staff and patients alike appreciate her knowledge, energy and dedication.   Kathy knows each patient by name and watches generations of families grow along with the dental practice.

Out of the office, Kathy is grandma extraordinaire! From soccer games to bridal showers, she doesn’t miss it.  She values time spent with her daughters, Kasey and Kellie, and her 5 grandchildren ages 10-26. She may still put up with Durango winters but only after a welcome, and well deserved, Jamaican vacation!

Courtney Sanborn

Dental Hygienist

Courtney’s unique perspective and upbeat approach makes dental hygiene appointments enjoyable ones.  A true partner in your health, Courtney inspires success in improving patients’ health and is passionate about finding workable solutions for everyone.

After graduating Durango High School way back when, Courtney adventured her way through life in the Pacific Northwest for 25 years, settling in Sandpoint, ID.  In 2014, she attained her BSDH degree (with minors in chemistry and public health) from the prestigious dental hygiene program at Eastern Washington University in Spokane, WA.

Her subsequent work experience in rural public health, expanded functions restorative care and traditional private practice established a broad treatment base for patients of all ages and stages.  She joined the hygiene team at Animas Dental Associates in August 2018, shortly after returning to Durango, and we couldn’t be happier she did.

Courtney spends her time as a busy mom alongside her partner, Jeff, their kids ages 12-20 and their 3 dogs.  Luckily they all enjoy time snowboarding, traveling, paddle sports, fishing and hiking. In her zen time, she tends a large perennial garden and practices yoga.
